About the position

The aim of the project is to unravel the impact of the MRI gene on neuroprotection, neurogenesis, and neurovascular regeneration in cerebral ischemic stroke models. In the short term, the project will explore mechanisms underlying stroke pathology with MRI deficiency using animal models and 3D human neural organoid models. In the long term, this project will unravel new mechanistic insight underlying the neurological outcomes in patients suffering from ischemic stroke, leading to the development of treatment strategies and improving stroke recovery.

Duties of the position

  • Determine how MRI impacts neuroprotection, neurogenesis, and neural regeneration in neonatal mice after hypoxia-ischemia.
  • Determine the impact of MRI on ischemic stroke recovery by modeling hypoxic and ischemic brain injury using 3D human brain organoids.
  • Determine the role of MRI in neurovascular regeneration by modeling hypoxia-ischemia in 3D human neurovascular organoids.
  • Assess the impact of MRI on the diseased human fetal brain.

Required selection criteria

  • You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD in molecular and cell biology. If you can document that the PhD thesis has been submitted, your application can be assessed even if you have not yet defended your dissertation.
